United Way Foundation

Support for human services, today and in the future - that's what the United Way of the Midlands Foundation can provide our community, with your help.

The United Way of the Midlands (UWM) Foundation provides long-term support of United Way of the Midlands in its mission: to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities. With the help of the foundation, United Way will be better able to respond quickly and effectively to changing health and human service needs in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area.
Donors can support the United Way of the Midlands Foundation, and United Way itself by:
  • endowing their annual gifts
  • providing funding for programs and services (to help at-risk children, disadvantaged families, senior citizens and more)
  • provide an unrestricted gift that allows the Foundation Board to determine where the funds should be used to address the greatest need in our community at the time of the gift.

To ensure continuous annual support for local health and human services, the United Way of the Midlands Foundation established an endowment and planned giving program. Gifts made to the endowment fund through wills, trusts, life insurance or estate plans leave a lasting legacy that not only impacts the present; more importantly, it impacts the future of our community.

A planned gift may include gifts of stock, bonds, mutual funds or real estate, given to United Way of the Midlands Foundation, either as an outright gift or a gift in a bequest, trust or gift annuity.

Planned giving not only allows you to demonstrate your commitment to people in need, but it can be an important element of your overall financial, philanthropic and estate planning. Helping you to meet your philanthropic and financial goals is our prime objective.

A planned gift can:

  • Close the gap between real community needs and available funding;
  • Create new programs that require funding not always available from the annual campaign;
  • Allow our community to act, instead of react, to challenging health and human-service problems.
    YOUR PLANNED GIVING OPTIONS:

    Wills or Bequests. In addition to providing for your family, your will can designate United Way of the Midlands as a beneficiary. You may give a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or all of what remains after providing for the important people in your life.

    Retirement Plans. You can make United Way of the Midlands a beneficiary of your IRA or retirement plan. This option is an especially effective way to minimize estate taxes.

    Appreciated Securities. Contributing appreciated securities such as stocks, bonds and municipal funds can provide you with significant tax benefits, including avoidance of capital-gains tax.

    Property. Donations of real estate, jewelry, art, or other valuables also make welcome gifts and can provide significant tax benefits.

    Life-Income Gifts. Name United Way of the Midlands as the beneficiary of a charitable-remainder trust, lead trust, gift annuity or pooled income fund. These can be tailored to meet your specific needs, in addition to benefiting United Way of the Midlands and the community it serves.
