Rain or Shine - Kickoff and Volunteer "Day of Caring" on Tuesday Aug. 30 - PDF  | Print |

Hundreds of people from our community filled sandbags as the Missouri River rose. Hundreds more volunteer their time weekly or monthly for local nonprofit and civic efforts.  Rain or shine, Tuesday August 30th is Campaign Kickoff at 101 & Pacific, AND it's "Day of Caring 2011."  Take a look at the companies and people who are lending a helping hand in our community!

FIRST UP - KICKOFF!
Join us for pancakes with United Way campaign chairs, Jim and Diny Landen, at Security National Bank, 101 & Pacific, starting at 7:30 a.m.  *There's a nice big tent and adjacent meeting room, so we'll stay dry no matter what!  We'll hear from an Iraq War veteran whose life is getting better each day, thanks to a program United Way donors support.  We'll check out the 2011 campaign video too!  Members of the Westside High School Jazz Band will perform, and the formal program starts at 7:45 a.m.

NOW, DAY OF CARING EVENTS:

According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, the states of Nebraska and Iowa rank number Four and Two respectively when it comes to residents who lend their time and skills to improve people’s lives.

Community-wide “United Way Day of Caring 2011” –  Co-workers from 15 local organizations will complete projects that the nonprofit staffs at United Way partner agencies don’t have the time or resources to tackle. The companies also participate in the annual United Way fundraising campaign, another example of their strong community spirit. Projects will run between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. (PROJECT LIST ATTACHED)
Participating organizations are: Bank of the West, Black Hills Energy/Meter Shop, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, Central States Health & Life Co., City of Omaha, First National Bank of Omaha, HDR Inc., Lincoln Financial Group, Mutual of Omaha, Nebraska Furniture Mart, PayPal, Physicians Mutual, QuikTrip, UNO Athletics and US Bank.
