Anna Mae Tomka's 25+ years of volunteer service to Nebraska's 2-1-1 Call Center is being recognized by the MetLife Foundation and the National Association of Areas on Aging.


The MetLife Foundation's "Older Volunteers Enrich America" Awards will honor 26 individuals Over Age 50.

Who: Anna Mae Tomka, Omaha - Volunteer in Nebraska's 2-1-1 Call Center at United Way of the Midlands

What: The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) and MetLife Foundation will honor recipients of the 2010 MetLife Foundation Older Volunteers Enrich America Awards. The program, now in its eighth year, honors older volunteers making exemplary contributions to their communities and promotes volunteering among older adults nationwide. Award winners will travel to Washington, DC for a ceremony in their honor.

Omahan Anna Mae Tomka has volunteered for more than 25 years on the information and referral hotline now known as "2-1-1." Though she donates her service to help others, Ms. Tomka has undergone all of the training that 2-1-1’s paid information and referral specialists complete. "It’s wonderful to give people the information they need to get through a difficult time in their lives," said Ms. Tomka. "Anna Mae Tomka is so dependable, we can 'tell time' by her arrival each weekday morning," said Jamie Moore, Vice President of Volunteer and Community Services/2-1-1 at United Way of the Midlands. "She's a great asset to the 2-1-1 call center, and to our entire community."
