Mission and Vision

OPEN YOUR HEART. LEND YOUR MUSCLE. FIND YOUR VOICE. JOIN THE MOVEMENT

United Way is a powerful partnership of donors, volunteers and service providers. We change people's lives and make a lasting change in our community. From families in poverty, to teens in trouble, to seniors struggling to remain independent, and more.

Specifically, United Way of the Midlands mobilizes the caring power of people who live and work in Douglas and Sarpy Counties in Nebraska and Pottawattamie County in southwest Iowa.

United Way-funded programs change people’s lives and forge real change in community conditions.

Through 2-1-1, United Way connects people with the local services they need, by phone and over the web. United Way recruits and refers volunteers of all ages, and builds partnerships that improve the quality and delivery of human services across the metro area.

To do this we will:

  • Energize and inspire people to make a difference
  • Craft human care agendas within and across our communities
  • Build coalitions around these agendas
  • Increase investments in these agendas by expanding and diversifying our own development efforts and supporting those of others
  • Measure, communicate, and learn from the impact of our efforts
  • Reflect the diversity of the communities we serve

THE COMMUNITY CARE FUND
United Way works with human service providers, government agencies and volunteers to identify our community's most urgent needs, and the programs that best address them. The resulting network of nearly 150 programs, operating in our partner agencies, provides a safety net for people-in-need in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area.

IMPACT INITIATIVES
These initiatives focus on local issues that demand our community's attention: at risk youngsters, disadvantaged families, and older adults who need a helping hand to remain independent and productive. The goal is to create and support effective programs that change people's lives AND improve conditions in our community. If we can get at the underlying causes of people's hardships, we can work together to remove some of those obstacles. Bottom line - we're taking steps so fewer people find themselves in need of the safety-net in the future.

IF YOU NEED HELP, OR WANT TO HELP
Your United Way also provides vital direct services, like 2-1-1. It's a 24/7 phone information and referral service that connects callers with local human service organizations that can meet their needs. Also, United Way's Volunteer Resource Center can arrange meaningful community service projects for individuals and groups all year long -- another way we make our community stronger. Thank you for your support!
