One of the best ways to help our older relatives and neighbors stay healthy is to help them prevent falls.  And it's an easy message to share, thanks to United Way donors and our great community partners!

It's a fact -- falls are a leading cause of hospitalization for seniors.  So United Way and its partners are increasing the availability of balance control exercise classes, like T'ai Chi, in the Omaha-Council Bluffs-Bellevue metro area.  (Learn more about this and a great local transportation directory, by checking out our Older Adults page!)

A coalition of local organizations called F1RST has also produced a free Home Safety DVD. Visit the coalition's informative website right here.

F1RST is short-hand for "Fall Intervention Reaching Seniors Together."  Along with United Way, partners in  F1RST include the Safety and Health Council of Greater Omaha, Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging, University of Nebraska at Omaha and Visiting Nurse Association, along with great team members from a variety of public, private and nonprofit organizations.
