Know Someone Who Needs DTV Help? |
|
The switch to an "all-digital" television signal was completed on June 12, 2009. But there may be some elderly and low-income citizens who were not able to get a converter box. Many do not have the ability to subscribe to cable or satellite services; without television service, they are cut off from one important source of news, emergency information and entertainment. Here's how you can get involved:
- If you know someone who no longer has over-the-air television services, PLEASE encourage them to call 2-1-1 (or if their phone doesn't allow the 3-digit call, they can dial 402-444-6666). Our info & referral specialists will do their best to help them find available local resources. If they have technical issues, there are experts to whom we can refer them, depending on their situation. We also have contact with a limited number of volunteers who have been helping people install their DTV converters and indoor antennae.
- There's a good fact sheet here on our website with information on the government coupons, certified converter boxes, etc. (some of the text is dated, but the contact information remains active).
- Consider donating a new converter box to the Nebraska Digital Television Conversion Coalition (NDTCC). Members of the coalition will get those donated boxes distributed to the elderly and to disadvantaged families. Converter donations will be accepted at United Way’s office at 1805 Harney Street in downtown Omaha, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
