Want to Help a Local Nonprofit Grow Stronger? Volunteers are essential to nonprofit organizations, and they are especially important on their boards of directors. Special training through Heartland Blueprint can turn a prospective volunteer into a strong board member.
Applications are now being accepted for this training program. Blueprint is geared toward increasing the participation of people-of-color at the policy-making level of local nonprofit organizations. However, it's open to people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds in Douglas, Sarpy, Pottawattamie and Mills counties. The annual class has a diverse student body. United Way of the Midlands’ Volunteer and Community Services division sponsors the free program. Heartland Blueprint includes a six-hour orientation, and then six three-hour sessions that cover a variety of topics such as parliamentary procedure, strategic planning, finance and legal issues. Class XIX will begin on Saturday, February 26, 2011. The sessions will be held bi-weekly through May 2011. Applications for the Heartland Blueprint class were accepted through December 31, 2010.To obtain an application or more information, call 522-7930; send a fax to 522-7991; or visit www.uwmidlands.org/blueprint.
