Ollie Webb Center -- At 22 weeks of pregnancy Sandy had a routine ultrasound, hoping to hear good news. It came as a surprise, then, when she and her husband Don discovered their unborn baby daughter had a rare genetic condition called Turner syndrome. Over the next two weeks they tried to cope with the news, battling feelings of guilt. It was then that Sandy contacted the Parent to Parent (P2P) program of the Ollie Webb Center. The program director walked them through the medical and genetic information and sent them a Guide for Turner Syndrome Families. The family was then matched with another family who also had a daughter with Turner syndrome. The two families met and began sharing support and information specific to their unique situations. The mentoring family provided Sandy and her husband with round the clock support. Being able to relate to other parents lifted the stress and worry from Sandy’s shoulders. Sandy and Don were able to find that network of support through programs supported by your generous United Way donations.
